Explore Wentworth Falls
With postcard views on its doorstep, the historic village of Wentworth Falls is a spectacular base to experience the Blue Mountains’ natural grandeur. Many bushwalks in the area showcase the full breadth of the Blue Mountains National Park’s natural wonders. It was named after William Charles Wentworth who, along with Blaxland and Lawson, was the first European to cross the mountains in 1813. Conservation Hut at the Valley of the Waters in Wentworth Falls offers a range of hearty lunches, tasty snacks and great coffee within the beautiful World Heritage – listed Blue Mountains National Park. Since the 1960s, the “Hut” has been a meeting place for the Blue Mountains
Conservation Society and a valued rest stop for hikers. Rebuilt in mud brick in 1989 to house two Reinis Zusters paintings, the Hut continues to inspire sustainable ecological values. Visit the Falls gallery, or enjoy superb views of Wentworth Falls cascading to the valley floor. A view of the top of the falls is easily accessible from the Wentworth Falls Lookout which is accessed by a slightly sloping concrete path (wheelchair accessible) from the car park area. Stop at the Jamison Lookout for views over the Jamison Valley. Follow the Charles Darwin walk and enjoy waterfalls and bird watching on the trail from the village to the lake, or explore the valley of the waters, one of the prettiest spots in the Blue Mountains. This track explores the upper portion of the Wentworth Pass, a number of walks are accessible on this trail including Queen Victoria Lookout, Empress Lookout and Lyrebird Lookout. Wentworth Falls Country club is an 18 hole par-70 course. Wentworth Falls lake and picnic area also has BBQ facilities and a children’s playground. There is plenty of wildlife to be spotted here, too, including native duck species and other colourful birds.
A picnic area, accessible via a sealed road from the Great Western Highway, is located a short distance from the town of Wentworth Falls, with parking for cars and larger vehicles. Create your own atmosphere or dine in style at one of the many stylish cafes and restaurants around this beautiful area. Check out the local events calendar for a year-round line up of markets, music festivals and shows throughout the area. Wentworth Falls isn’t just a waterfall. Set amongst the magnificent landscape of the Blue Mountains, it acts as a great starting point to get to know the region.
As well as walks, views, and cascading waters, you can also delve into the cultural perks of the area, as well as soak up the bustling lifestyle of the locals in the numerous cafes and small eateries. Its appeal lies primarily in its dramatic vistas and the simple fact that it is not nearly as crowded and overly touristy as Katoomba or Leura which are the next two towns as the visitor rises up the mountains. Just a short drive up the highway will take you to the world famous Three Sisters, Megalong Valley, Jenolan Caves, & Scenic World.
